Edinburgh assistant coach Rob Moffat stressed the team needs to get off to a positive start in the Heineken Cup after the Magners League runner's up were drawn to face Bath, Stade Francais and Ulster in the Pool stages of the competition.
During the previous two seasons, Edinburgh have started the European campaign with home defeats against Toulouse and Leinster, with both opposing teams eventually progressing through to the showpiece Final.
As a result, Moffat believes Edinburgh need to come out of the blocks with clinical precision in order to qualify for the knock-out stages of the premier competition in northern hemisphere rugby.
Moffat, currently away in Japan with Scotland's Under-20 team, said: "The Heineken Cup is a fantastic competition and we need to make sure we get off to good start in what will prove to be a tough Pool.
"The amount of quality in the Heineken Cup means there will never be an easy Pool and it is interesting to see we have been drawn to play some teams we haven’t faced before in Europe.
"We need to continue the progress made and that we make a step forward in the competition.
"Last season we didn't get off to a good start after losing to Leinster and it is important that we build some momentum."
