The British and Irish Lions rugby squad was announced in late April ahead of the 2009 British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa. Paul O’Connell was named the British and Irish Lions team captain.
Wales and Ireland each contributed 13 players while there were eight and two representatives from England and Scotland, respectively.
